COMMUNITY TENNIS ACTIVATOR
Our goal is to inspire more children and young people across Great Britain to pick up a racket and fall in love with tennis – regardless of their background or ability.
To make this possible, we’re introducing LTA Youth Go! – a programme designed to help community groups deliver exciting, action-packed tennis sessions for kids in a fun and accessible way.
LTA Youth Go! brings tennis to local communities, encouraging kids to stay active, enjoy time with friends, and develop new skills.
No tennis court? No problem. These sessions are flexible and can be run anytime, anywhere that works for you.
Learn more about the programme and how you can become an Activator to bring tennis to kids of all ages in your community.
WHO CAN BECOME AN ACTIVATOR?
Our activators are at the heart of the programme. Activators are trained to facilitate play and have a vital role in running introductory sessions to the next generation outside of traditional tennis clubs and venues.
Never coached or even played tennis before? No problem – anyone with lots of enthusiasm and a passion to get people active can become an activator. We’ll support you along the way.
Our free online course will take you through everything you need to know to get started and run your own introductory tennis lessons for kids.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ACTIVATOR AND A COACH?
The role of an activator is to facilitate a fun, basic introduction to tennis. Activation refers to facilitation of play.
Coaching however, refers to the purposeful and guided technical or tactical development of a players tennis skills, which is what a coach is trained to provide (through formal, assessed, qualifications).
LTA SERVES
The LTA SERVES programme is dedicated to bringing tennis to young people in underserved communities across Great Britain, helping them get active and enjoy the physical, social, and mental benefits of the sport.
Designed for children and young people aged 4-18, this leading sport-for-development initiative takes tennis into local communities, reaching those who may never have had the chance to play or thought tennis wasn’t for them. The focus is on having fun with friends, staying mentally and physically healthy, and learning valuable life skills both on and off the court.
Through the power of tennis, we aim to help young people boost their confidence, strengthen community ties, and develop a greater understanding of health and wellbeing.
To support this mission, we’ve trained and empowered over 1,500 Tennis Activators across Britain, equipping volunteers, youth workers, and community leaders with the tools and skills to deliver fun and inclusive tennis sessions.
