INTRODUCTION TO PADEL COACHING
A new training offer that aims to support individuals to activate (facilitate play) sessions in the sport of padel and gain important basic knowledge and skills for delivering padel.
The course will focus on basics around padel as a sport, the role of walls, shot selection and court positioning and will also cover best practice for leading a session and feeding approaches.

LTA LEVEL 2 PADEL INSTRUCTOR
There are two separate components to LTA Qualifications: Training and Assessment.
- Training: The LTA Padel Instructor course consists of five days of face-to-face training, separated by a minimum of four weeks. This allows time for eight hours’ work experience and coursework completion).
For the LTA Padel Instructor course, the five days of learning are split into core and elective days. There are four days of core training and one day of elective. Core and elective training is booked (and paid for) on the LTA Course Search Tool.
Coaches can choose from one of the two Elective options: Coaching Kids Padel or How to Coach the Double Glass.
- Assessment: Final assessments are conducted during a real-life lesson of your choice, at a padel venue of your choice. Assessments are recorded by you (using smartphone equipment) and then submitted virtually by video upload. For more details please see the Assessments page.

COURSE PREREQUISITES
For optimal course quality and impact, the LTA Padel Instructor has prerequisites to ensure that the course demands are aligned with your existing knowledge and skills. For LTA Padel Instructor, these are:
- Successful completion of the LTA Padel Instructor Readiness Test. The Readiness Test can take up to two weeks to be assessed once submitted – please allow sufficient time for this when signing up for the course.
- Be LTA Accredited or hold a DBS / PVG Enhanced Check with Child Barred List certificate applied for in the past 12 months through LTA / Tennis Scotland (volunteer certificates cannot be accepted). A DBS can be accepted if you are on the Update Service – see here for more details. Please note that it may take at least eight weeks for a DBS to be processed and you must hold a valid DBS certificate upon booking.
ASSESSMENT PREREQUISITES
- Candidates must fully complete five training days (core and elective) and all coursework tasks before they can book their final assessment. The elective day can be completed before, during or after the Core Training.
- Hold a valid certificate of competence in either First Aid at Work (FAW), Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW), Paediatric First Aid (PFA) or have successfully completed the OFQUAL Level 3 in First Aid prior to assessment. This is to ensure you are safe to practice upon qualifying.
HOW TO COACH THE DOUBLE GLASS
This face-to-face workshop equips Padel coaches with the foundational knowledge and skills to teach players the four options for playing shots using the double glass.
Coaches will spend an hour on each of the four options, and will leave with a solid understanding of LTA coaching methodology, the underpinning principles of the Tactical and Technical Development Frameworks, and plenty of teaching points and drills to make an immediate impact on player performance.
By the end of this course you will:
- Learn the four types of double glass shots in Padel
- Learn and use game-based lesson structure and the LTA Tactical and Technical Development Frameworks to guide coaching interventions
- Understand a framework for the order in which to teach shots
- Understand and practice some effective teaching points for each of the four options

The 7+1 Overheads in Padel
Learn the tactical and technical secrets behind the 7+1 overheads in padel; how to observe and analyse them, and how to teach them. In tennis there is one overhead – the smash; in padel, there are 8. They are also one of the most common shots in padel, with roughly a quarter of strokes being overheads. Find out why there’s such a variety, and why learning a combination of them is so important for player development. To finish, you’ll also take away a series of games and drills that you can use with players to develop the overhead strokes. This course was developed by a team of content creators that includes Steve Yeardley, Rafa Conde Ripoll, and Iciar Montes.
On the course, you’ll:
- Explore the difference between technical style and technical fundamentals for padel overheads
- Understand why the Bandeja is the most important overhead, and how to coach it through game-based coaching
- Learn what the eight overheads in the game are, why a player would hit them, and how a player can execute them
The 7+1 Overheads in Padel is for any coach who wants to better understand the variety of overheads in the game and equip themselves with the knowledge to teach them.

COACHING KIDS PADEL
LTA Youth is the flagship coaching programme for junior players aged 4 – 18. Building on the success of Tennis for Kids, LTA Youth is a fresh, modern and comprehensive coaching programme, offering Coaches world class content, via a suite of videos and session plans for all stages of player development. This face-to-face workshop enables coaches to understand the principles, competencies and framework of LTA Youth and practice adapting activities for Padel.
By the end of this course you will:
- Explore the three main areas where Padel differs to Tennis
- Understand and practice some safe and effective options to coach up to 16 red stage players on one Padel court
- Considered how games and competition opportunities can be maximised to enhance Padel specific skills
