CORE TRAINING

The course is 11 days broken down into nine core training days, and four video remote sessions. In addition, you will need to complete 2 face-to-face Elective courses before progressing to Summative Assessment with the LTA (paid separately).

EXPERIENCE

As part of this course coaches will be required to complete 9 hours of qualification experience across a minimum of 3 different areas. These areas could include learning from other sports, doubles training, LTA Youth Blue and more.

The LTA strongly recommends that a coach has appropriate insurance cover when undertaking supervised experienced hours that are a requirement of the course.

ONLINE LEARNING

Comprehensive online learning system which supports face-to-face delivery. This includes supporting documents and videos to widen knowledge beyond the course as well as tasks and reports which must be completed.

The online coursework for the Level 3 course includes:

  • Player Development Project– planning and delivery of 8x individual lessons with the same player. Coaches must evidence this with video footage and film a presentation.
  • Module and Subject Matter Expert Tests– these tests will be used to check understanding from the face-to-face modules and online presentations on LTA Learn.
  • Feeding and Demonstration task– practising 11 different feeding/demonstrating situations, developing areas of improvement, and then completing the tasks again.
  • Group Coaching Task– after module 3 coaches will need to film a 20-minute video coaching a group of 6-10 players on 2 courts. Passing this submission will be essential to pass online learning on the first attempt.

Online learning will be graded and contribute to 40% of your final grade.

SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT

Candidates must fully complete all 11 training days (core and elective) and all coursework tasks before they can book their final assessment. A pass mark from the group assessment on Day 9 of the Core Training must be attained. The final assessment is a real-life lesson, with a player and venue of your choosing, which you will capture on video using a smartphone.

Tennis Wales will deliver days 1-9 of the core training and the 4 pre-module online webinars and the LTA will conduct assessments, which will require a separate booking and payment process. Assessments can only be booked once the core training days have been completed. For more details relating to booking your assessment please visit the Assessments page or contact the Coach Development Centre running your course.

The electives are booked and paid for seperately to the Core Training.

Candidates must attend all the sessions on the course and pass all elements of the assessment criteria to be successful.
